Swami Prasad Maurya is a big name in UP politics. Maurya, once aka BSP, joined BJP, then bid farewell to BJP and rode Akhilesh’s bike. Swami Prasad Maurya has a long political career spanning nearly four decades and is considered a stalwart politician in UP politics.
Swami Prasad Maurya contested and won the assembly elections on a BSP ticket from the Dalmau assembly seat in Rae Bareli. His career was such that he became a cabinet minister four times. He also became the Leader of the Opposition in the UP Legislative Assembly three times.
In 2009, after defeating Union Minister RPN Singh’s mother in the Padra by-election, he was included among the leaders close to Mayawati.
In 2008, Swami Prasad Maurya was made the President of BSP. After the 2012 defeat, Mayawati took over from him. In 2016, Swami Prasad Maurya rebelled against the Bahujan Samaj Party.
Swami Prasad Maurya founded his own party after leaving the BSP, but joined the BJP with bigger dreams. After winning the general elections in 2017, Swami Prasad Maurya was made a minister.
Swami Prasad Maurya, who rode Kamal’s chariot in the last general election, has now come with Akhilesh.
